April 2011 – World's largest "permission-based" e-mail marketing company reports a major security breach.

Epsilon, the world's largest "permission-based" email marketing company, reports sending 40 billion e-mails per year on behalf of its 2,500 clients. The hackers responsible for this security breach can use the email address of Epsilons' clients to send them a malicious form of spam called "target phishing" or "spear fishing". These terms refer to fake e-mails that attempt to appear legitimate because the hackers know that you normally receive emails like the ones they falsely manufacture. Click here to learn more.
