Kimberly Latka Named 2011 Statewide Claim Professional of the Year
November 30, 2011 – Kimberly Latka, Claims Specialist, is the recipient of the Connecticut Council of Insurance Women’s 2011 Statewide Claim Professional of the Year Award. this Connecticut award makes Kim eligible for the National Council’s Award which will be announced in Dallas,TX early next year.
Kim joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007. As a claims specialist, Kim is responsible for reporting all claims as they are received. She also assists agents with any inquiries regarding claims, and obtains loss runs as well. We are proud of Kim and wish her well in the National Competition.

September 25, 2011 – On Sunday, September 25th, The Hartford Courant published “The Hartford Courant and FOXCT Top Workplaces 2011” – a list of the best places to work in Connecticut. We are proud to report that S.H. Smith & Company was named to the list. Nearly 800 companies participated and S.H. Smith & Company placed 13th in the small business category!

September 14, 2011 – Advisen's Management Liability Insights Conference will take place at the Metropolitan Pavilion on Tuesday, September 27 in NYC. The conference will focus on D&O covers that risk managers and buyers at private companies and non-profits report that they are buying and why. S.H. Kimberly Latka named “Claim Professional of the Year”
April 12, 2011 – The Hartford Association of Insurance Women presented their “Claim Professional of the Year” Award to S.H. Smith & Company’s Claim Specialist, Kimberly Latka. This is a very high honor, as the candidates for this award include Insurance Companies, Reinsurance Companies, Independent Adjusters and Excess/Surplus Lines Claim Professionals.
Kim joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007. As a claims specialist, Kim is responsible for reporting all claims as they are received. She also assists agents with any inquiries regarding claims, and obtains loss runs as well. Prior to joining S. H. Smith, Kim was an inside claims representative for Great American Insurance. She is a graduate of the University of New Haven.
Dennis Donovan, Executive Vice President, to Serve as Moderator at the 2011 PLUS Professional Risk Symposium
March 1, 2011 – The Symposium, to be held March 24-25, 2011, at The Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago, IL, will involve emphasis on EPL, E&O and Fiduciary. Cynthia Bruce Awarded “2010 Connecticut Professional Underwriter of the Year” by the National Association of Insurance Women (NAIW)
November 2010 – Presented each year by the NAIW, the purpose of the award is to recognize a professional underwriter who has demonstrated superior knowledge of the underwriting field, experienced professional advancement through educational pursuits, demonstrated leadership in the field, and is an active participant in NAIW activities.
Cynthia joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2005. As a member of the In-House Underwriting team, she is responsible for marketing and underwriting small business Workers Compensation accounts. Cynthia has always been and continues to be a tremendous asset to our In-House Underwriting department, so we agree with the NAIW’s choice for 2010 CT Professional Underwriter of the Year. September, 2010 – The Summit, held on September 16-17, 2010 in Greensboro, North Carolina, is an informative summit designed to educate CEOs, Bank Security Professionals, IT Managers and personnel in charge of bank security and/or data security functions on the latest security issues affecting the banking industry. His presentation focused on the exposures and costs associated with, and risk management procedures inherent to, a privacy breach.
